At our next General Meeting we will introduce our new can goods drive for the holidays to assist families in need of food. Please feel free to bring can goods to this meeting. We will also discuss the upcoming Angel’s Night Campaign.

Our special guest will be Mr. Adam Hollier from the Arden Park East Boston Association who will present his presentation “Why Block Clubs Are Important”. “GQ” from the Detroit Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Division will give us an update on recent gang activity and Paul Taylor from DMC’s (Detroit Medical Center) Friends and Family Program.

Our special guest will be Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon and representatives from the Detroit Police Department’s Gang Enforcement Division. They will discuss crime analysis in MorningSide and tips on how to make MorningSide a safer community.

Today is the annual MorningSide Board elections. You will be voting to elect the candidates you would like to represent our community for the next year. MorningSide is encouraging you to get out and vote. Voting will start at 7:15 PM and end at 7:50 PM tonight. For your convenience we have included a copy of the ballot here.

Voting is extremely important because you are the ultimate overseers with the power to make a difference in our community by choosing the leaders who will continue to uplift our neighborhood.

It is the responsibility of every eligible MorningSide member (persons over the age of 18 who are home owners, business owners, landlords, renters, or the head of any public or private school or religious organization) to vote because collectively we can transform this neighborhood into “A Community on the Rise“.

At our next General Meeting, scheduled for February 8, 2011 we will host the Detroit Police Department’s Chief Ralph L. Godbee, Jr. He will be in MorningSide to address our questions and concerns pertaining to safety issues, response times and crime.

In this meeting, all questions will be submitted to the Chief and his staff in the following manner–via our Facebook page (MorningSide), email and/or cards submitted during the meeting. This is your chance to ask your questions about safety and crime in your neighborhood. This meeting is open to the public and not limited to MorningSide residents. Be sure to tell your coworkers, family and friends, and plan to be there early.

It is that time of year again when family and friends get together to fellowship and share in all of the goodwill that the holiday season brings.

As part of our MorningSide family, we are asking you to fellowship with us Tuesday. We will be hosting a community potluck dinner to celebrate the holiday season. For entertainment, we will have the Voices of Metro providing beautiful music throughout the party.

We ask that you bring a dish to share BUT PLEASE KNOW THAT THIS IS OPTIONAL NOT REQUIRED!

We look forward to seeing you next Tuesday at our usual meeting place in Peace Lutheran Church. We will start a little earlier at 6:30 p.m.
